To forward calls on Xfinity Mobile, dial *72 and then the 10-digit number you want calls sent to, on the Xfinity Mobile phone itself. Press Call, let the confirmation tone and message play, then hang up. Dialing *73 the same way turns forwarding off.
Xfinity includes call forwarding with an Xfinity Mobile plan, Unlimited or By the Gig, at no additional cost. Everything on this page is for an Xfinity Mobile cell line.
What to dial on an Xfinity Mobile phone
| What it does | Dial |
|---|---|
| Forward every call. Each one skips your phone and lands on the number you chose. | *72NUMBER |
| Forward only the calls that go unanswered. Your phone rings first; if you don't pick up, the call moves on. | *71NUMBER |
| Turn call forwarding off. | *73 |
NUMBER is the full phone number you're sending calls to, area code included. Xfinity forwards to domestic numbers only, toll-free numbers among them, and never to an international number.
Why it has to be the Xfinity Mobile phone
Xfinity says that for security reasons, call forwarding can only be turned on from the Xfinity Mobile device. It can't be turned on from another phone or a computer. Xfinity's steps are dial codes alone, with no step in the Xfinity app or your online account. Whoever sets this up needs the phone in hand. Spectrum Mobile is the contrast: it offers account steps alongside its codes.
If the phone is lost or damaged, Xfinity says to put a new device on the line instead of setting up call forwarding.
*72 or *71: which style fits
Xfinity describes two styles. With *72, every call forwards automatically and the mobile device never rings first. With *71, the device rings as usual and the call goes to the other number only when you don't answer it.
Choose *72 when another number should handle every call. Choose *71 when you'd rather answer yourself, with a backup for the ones you miss.
What forwarding does to voicemail and texts
- Voicemail. While forwarding is on, unanswered calls aren't sent to your Xfinity Mobile voicemail. The number you forward to needs to be able to take a message.
- Texts. Forwarding leaves them alone. They keep arriving on your phone as usual.
Xfinity Mobile call forwarding on an iPhone
Open the Phone app, tap Keypad, dial *72 and the number, and tap the green call button. When the confirmation tone and message have played, end the call.
Settings may also show a Call Forwarding row, under Apps › Phone. Apple documents that row for iPhones on a GSM network and tells people on a CDMA network to contact their carrier. Xfinity's own steps are the star codes, which is why we point you to the keypad. Should you use the row, Apple says you have to be in range of the cellular network at the moment you set it, or calls won't be forwarded.
One more thing from Apple: your iPhone blocks any link in a message, email, webpage or app that tries to switch call forwarding on, because scammers may use them. Type the code yourself. The iPhone call forwarding guide covers the Settings route in full.
Xfinity Mobile call forwarding on a Samsung Galaxy or another Android
Any Android phone takes the same input at the Phone app's keypad: *72, then the number, then Call. A Samsung Galaxy has a screen for the same job:
- Open the Phone app and tap More options (the three dots).
- Tap Settings, then Supplementary services, then Call forwarding.
- Choose Always forward, Forward when busy, Forward when unanswered or Forward when unreachable.
- Enter the number and tap Enable.
Samsung says availability varies by carrier and phone model. When the screen is missing or won't save on your line, the codes are Xfinity's own instructions. There's more in the Android call forwarding guide.
Turning Xfinity Mobile call forwarding off
On the Xfinity Mobile phone, dial *73, press Call and wait for the confirmation tone. Then end the call. Xfinity gives a single off code, and its fix for a mistyped number starts with it. Other carriers and phones are covered in our guide to turning off call forwarding.
If it doesn't take: busy signals and wrong numbers
- Callers hear a busy signal. Xfinity's first check is the number you forwarded to, since it's easy to mistype. To redo it, dial
*73and wait for the confirmation tone or message (the call should end by itself). Then dial*72or*71with the full number, area code included, press Call, wait for the tone or message again, and end the call. - Your phone still rings first. That's how
*71works. After*72, Xfinity says calls forward without the device ringing, so check which code you dialed and run the steps again if needed. - You tried it from a second phone or a computer. Xfinity only accepts the setting from the Xfinity Mobile device.
- The number is outside the US. Xfinity forwards to domestic numbers only.
Forwarding an Xfinity Mobile line to VettedCalls
Setup Step 4 gives Xfinity Mobile customers *72NUMBER, with NUMBER being your VettedCalls number, and *73 to turn it off later. That's the forward-every-call code from the table above, aimed at us instead of another phone. You dial it from the phone's regular dialer, and setup forwards every call, so *71 isn't the code for this. Once it's on, every call comes to VettedCalls first and your cell itself shouldn't ring. The calls that pass screening ring you in the Cloud Softphone app, with the caller's number showing.
Xfinity says unanswered calls skip your Xfinity Mobile voicemail while forwarding is on, so voicemail is ours from then on. A caller you don't pick up within 25 seconds can leave one on Pro, and it reaches you as a text alert and an email. If Xfinity Mobile can't forward your calls, we refund everything you paid within your first 14 days. Walk through setup.
