You can set Spectrum Mobile call forwarding in two places: in your Spectrum account, or on the phone by dialing *72 and the 10-digit number that should get your calls. Turning it off works both ways too, with OFF in the account or *73 on the keypad.
Spectrum says only the account holder can make changes to call forwarding. If the plan isn't in your name, the account holder has to do this part. Everything here is for Spectrum Mobile phone lines.
Set it up in your Spectrum account
The account route is the only place Spectrum offers a busy-line option.
- Under Your Services, select Mobile, then select your mobile line.
- Select Call Forwarding and complete the One Time Passcode prompt.
- Choose All Incoming Calls, enter the 10-digit number and select Save. Or choose Busy Line & Missed Calls, enter the number in one or both of its options and select Save.
Spectrum's article also says you can manage call forwarding in the My Spectrum App, but it lays out only the account steps and the star codes. Cox Spectrum customers start somewhere else: open a separate browser window, go to your account, sign in with your Cox user ID and password, then select Spectrum Mobile on the Home page.
Or dial it: the Spectrum Mobile star codes
On the Spectrum Mobile phone, open the keypad, enter the code and the number, and tap Call. Spectrum says to wait for a confirmation tone and message before you end the call.
| What it does | Dial |
|---|---|
| Forward every call to the other number. | *72NUMBER |
| Forward the calls you don't answer. | *71NUMBER |
| Switch forwarding off. | *73 |
NUMBER is the 10-digit number, area code first. Spectrum forwards to domestic numbers only, not to international ones. Its *71 steps cover unanswered calls only.
Account or star code: which one to use
| Route | Where you do it | What it can forward | Turning it off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spectrum account | Your Services › Mobile › your line › Call Forwarding, after the One Time Passcode | All Incoming Calls, or Busy Line & Missed Calls | Select OFF, then Save |
| Star codes | The keypad of the Spectrum Mobile phone | *72 for every call, *71 for unanswered calls |
*73 |
For forwarding everything, the code is the shorter job. Xfinity Mobile, by comparison, gives codes for the phone and nothing else.
Spectrum Mobile call forwarding on an iPhone
From the Phone app, tap Keypad, enter *72 and the 10-digit number, and tap the call button. Hold on until you hear the confirmation tone and message, then end the call.
Apple also documents a Call Forwarding row under Settings, Apps, Phone. Spectrum's steps are the account and the codes, so start there; our iPhone call forwarding guide covers the row, including what to do when it's missing.
Spectrum Mobile call forwarding on Samsung and other Android phones
Any Android phone takes the star codes in the Phone app's keypad. A Galaxy also has Call forwarding under Phone app › More options › Settings › Supplementary services, where Samsung lists four choices: Always forward, plus forwarding when busy, unanswered or unreachable. Samsung notes that availability varies by carrier and phone model. If that screen isn't on your phone, use the codes or the account. More on Android.
What changes while forwarding is on
Spectrum says that with forwarding enabled, unanswered calls aren't sent to your mobile voicemail, and text messages aren't affected. Whatever number you chose has to be ready to take a message.
Turning Spectrum Mobile call forwarding off
Match the way you turned it on. In the account: Your Services, Mobile, your line, Call Forwarding, then the One Time Passcode, select OFF and select Save. On the phone: dial *73, tap Call, wait for the confirmation tone and message, and end the call. The off code for each of the other carriers is in the turn off call forwarding guide.
If it doesn't take: account holders, codes and the Galaxy screen
- You can't change it. Only the account holder can make changes to call forwarding. Check whose account the line is on.
- The Call Forwarding screen stops at a passcode. Spectrum's steps have you complete the One Time Passcode prompt first, and only then choose All Incoming Calls or Busy Line & Missed Calls.
- The code seems to do nothing. Dial it again with the full 10-digit number, area code included, and wait for the confirmation tone and message before ending the call.
- The number is outside the US. Spectrum forwards to domestic numbers only.
- You used the iPhone's Settings row and calls aren't forwarding. Apple says calls won't be forwarded unless the iPhone has cellular coverage while you're setting it.
Forwarding a Spectrum Mobile line to VettedCalls
Our setup uses the star code. In Step 4 you dial *72NUMBER from the phone's regular dialer, putting your VettedCalls number where NUMBER is. That's the first row of the table, the one that forwards every call; *71 and the account's Busy Line & Missed Calls option leave some calls out, and setup forwards all of them. Once it's on, calls reach us before your cell, which shouldn't ring on its own. Anyone who passes screening rings you in the Cloud Softphone app, and you see their number. To stop forwarding later, dial *73.
If Spectrum Mobile turns out not to forward your calls, you get a full refund within the first 14 days. See the setup steps.
